Loft Conversion Hove
A very common home update in Brighton and Hove but as we know all houses are slightly different so how we plan the space and storage is an individual task. And these considerations then open up opportunity for individual character to shine through.
Space is a premium and the owners wanted the loft and ensuite as their main bedroom and the previous main bedroom on the first floor to become an office/guest room so everywhere becomes a hardworking space and is utilised. With a chimney in the space it meant we had the opportunity to add hidden and sunken storage into a bedhead wall. It freed up floor space, made everything streamlined and gave a home to everything. With electrics added into the wood clad bedside niches and lighting mounted onto the wall we could elevate the space and make it feel cohesive. We used an Orac wall covering for impact and by running into a wooden topped dressing table area with hidden drawers underneath it meant there was a home for everything.
We tackled an extensive trainer collection by providing flush under eaves storage and behind the trainer shelves - a hidden access panel into even more storage for those 'once a year' or seasonal items. By adding built in sliding wardrobes and colour drenching with Paint and Paper Library's Sprig V the tone feels serene but cosy.
The ensuite (as is always the way with the smallest spaces) was a feat in stealing space. From a shower niche that we stole from above the stairwell to a larger velux to increase head height on the slope and vertical oriented stripe tiles to encourage a feeling of height in the space. Everything was meticulously planned. A night sensor lighting strip was inset into the tiles at floor height to wash the floor rather than using the brighter overhead spots at night and the angles were accentuated by an organic shaped mirror.
Downstairs in the main office we incorporated more bespoke storage with an alcove wardrobe and then an in-built desk area with a shelf that runs across the chimney wall to add some character and to balance the sofa bed. The room is set for work, relaxing and guests.
