One of the most common concerns I hear is about wanting to get the colours "right". People feel afraid of choosing the wrong colour for their walls and then being stuck with it. Or worried that every room in the house is a different colour and doesn't work together. But there are some really easy tips here to think about before you put 'paint to wall' and commit.
1: Consider the mood you want to create: Colours can have a big impact on the mood and feel of a space. Where blues and greens can create a calming and soothing atmosphere, bold colours like reds and yellows can create an energizing and vibrant space.
2: Look at your existing decor: think about the colours that are already present in your space, by looking at your furniture, accessories or artwork. Use these colours as a starting point for your colour palette. A well loved picture, vase or even an armchair for example can be the jumping off point for the colours you use in the room.
3: Use colour theory: Colour theory is a great way to help you understand how different colours work together. Complementary colours (colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel) can create a bold and vibrant look, while analogous colours (colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel) can create a more harmonious and calming look.
4: Consider the size of your space: Dark colours can make a space feel smaller and more intimate, while light colours can make a space feel larger and more open. But don't be afriad to embrace the dark colours in a small space as sometimes the drama and impact it creates is fantastic.
5: Use accent colours: Accent colours can add interest and depth to your colour scheme. Consider using pops of bright colour in a more neutral scheme with colourful accessories like throw pillows or artwork. By using accent colours with a more traditional base colour, it will mean you can change the feel up more easily as trends come and go and start to give you the confidence to really play with colour.
6: Don't be afraid to experiment: Remember that choosing colours for your space is a personal decision, and there's no right or wrong answer. Don't be afraid to experiment with different colour combinations until you find the one that works best for you. There are tons of great ways of approaching paint out there now to inspire you from colour blocking, colour drenching and limewashing finishes just for starters.
Remember that choosing the right colours for your space can have a big impact on the look and feel of your home. By considering your personal style, the mood you want to create, and the existing decor in your space, you can create a colour scheme that is both beautiful and functional.
