How has your summer been? It's been super busy this end with lots of lovely interior jobs on but I also had a wonderful opportunity this August to go to Greece and be surrounded by every colour of blue you can possibly imagine. It definitely gave me my summer vibes and colour fix. Of course returning home is always lovely to see friends and family but the changeable weather has already got me thinking ahead to the change of season in Autumn. So a quick photo dump here of all those beautiful blues for posterity - I feel a mood board coming on!
But as we are now back to reality and the season end is near, I thought I would focus this month’s blog on upcoming trends for Autumn and ways you can integrate them into your current home.
It's time to channel cooler days (well slightly cooler than we've been having this summer!). And along with all those sensible jobs like clearing gutters and checking your boiler works, there is room for some fun still too. So read on for my round up of the current interior trends out there this Autumn and a selection of top buys for your home right now.

Curves are still leading the way this autumn, with their organic, natural shapes they bring comfort and flow into our homes. We’re seeing this trend in rounded furniture, from sofas with soft, sweeping lines to circular coffee tables and curved headboards. These shapes help to create a more inviting and cosy atmosphere, making a room feel softer and more welcoming.

Ovals and ellipses are building on the popularity of the softer shapes in items like mirrors, tables, and lighting fixtures. These shapes bring a sense of elongation and elegance to a space, offering an alternative to the circular curves. Oval mirrors, for instance, are particularly growing in popularity, providing a unique twist on the traditional round mirror.

Arches and rounded doorways are another key shape trend for Autumn 2024. This architectural feature adds a classic yet contemporary touch to interiors, breaking away from the rigidity of straight lines and right angles. Arches can be incorporated in doorways, mirrors, or even as decorative niches to add visual interest and a sense of softness.

Following on from summer trends, the scalloped edges are still bringing a touch of fun to our homes this autumn. This soft, curved detail is popping up everywhere on the high street now, from furniture to textiles, adding a playful contrast to more structured designs. Whether it’s on mirrors, side tables, or the edges of rugs, scalloped edges are making a joyful statement in any room. This trend introduces a gentle femininity to spaces, perfect for those wanting to soften their home’s overall look. When combined with the rich textures and muted tones of the season, scalloped edges help create a beautifully balanced and harmonious interior.

As the temperatures drop, there’s a natural inclination to seek out comfort and cosiness, which is where the ‘chunky’ trend comes into play. This autumn, think soft rounded edges, chunky furniture, and bold, robust designs that make a statement. Chunky pieces add a sense of warmth and solidarity to a space, inviting you to sink in and get comfortable. Whether it’s a thick, textured rug underfoot or a large, enveloping sofa, these elements are all about creating a space that feels both grounded and luxurious. The chunky trend is ideal for those looking to infuse their homes with a tactile, inviting atmosphere as the seasons shift.

Colours are varied this Autumn (a little like the predictions of colours throughout 2024) but the main stand outs for me are the soft pastels and the warm neutrals and russets that are showing up everywhere right now. But how to incorporate them simply?

If you're drawn to the pastels then invest in cushions, throws, or even wall art in soft, muted pastels like lavender, pale mint, or dusty rose. Or throw it on the walls if you're feeling bolder and colour drench your rooms in pastel hues. These colours are perfect for adding a subtle, stylish update that reflects the calming and serene trend of the season. They work well in living rooms, bedrooms, and even bathrooms to bring a fresh, light feel to your space.

This year the neutral palette has been gaining traction again as it embraces a blend of earthy stones, reds and greens, that reflects a connection to nature. Perfect for a contemporary but timeless look. You can paint your walls with warm and grounding colours and layer up with the richer colours for a nod to this trend without the full overhaul. Just think neutrals as your base. And all those russets, burnt oranges and warming colours are perfect for an autumn and winter interior. Feeling cosier already.

Another trending decorative idea is grouping colourful glass. It is one of my favourites for adding a pop of colour to a mantlepiece or shelf. And when the sunlight hits it - just gorgeous. You can group your glass collection with colour clashes or similar tones. It's playful and fun and adds some character.

And then finally, pattern. It's everywhere! But one of the key themes coming through are squares and stripes. If you're not ready to go with a wallpapered stripe or check in your home then you can buy into the trend with some of these beauties that will stand the test of time.

Now please don't go buying lots of new stuff unnecessarily as we all need to try and be as sustainable as we can be in how we approach purchasing but hopefully if you are on the look out for some new items this will have given you some fresh ideas.
And of course, if you ever need support or guidance, just give me a call.
